Forari Bay surf guide

Forari Bay is a surf spot that offers a mix of waves and environments for surfers looking to catch some action. It’s located in a relatively remote area, which can make it a bit less crowded than other spots. The area has a laid-back vibe, and if you're willing to take the time to check it out, you might find some interesting waves waiting for you. However, it’s important to note that the overall consistency can be hit or miss, so patience is key.

The waves at Forari Bay can deliver some decent rides, especially for intermediate surfers. The optimal swell direction is NorthEast, but you can also catch swells coming from the SouthEast. It’s best to go when the swell sizes are around 2 to 6 feet (about 0.6 to 1.8 meters). The reef breaks here predominantly feature fast, hollow lefts, which work well with any E swell and a W wind. There’s also a right on the south side of the bay that can provide some fun waves, particularly when the trades are blowing and conditions align. Aiming for mid to high tide is typically where you’ll have the best chance of scoring good waves.

While the primary wave type in Forari Bay is reef, the unique setup of the bay means that you might notice different vibes depending on the tide and winds. Because it’s situated in a less trafficked area, it’s a good idea to keep checking in regularly if you’re nearby to see if the surf conditions change. Overall, Forari Bay can be a gem every now and then, so it’s worth keeping it on your radar.

Wind certainty

Wind certainty tells you how much the weather models agree on the forecast.

  • High certainty: Models agree closely; forecast is reliable.
  • Medium certainty: Some disagreement; conditions may shift slightly.
  • Low certainty: Models diverge; treat forecast with caution.

We calculate this by comparing wind speed, gust and direction from multiple models (like GFS, ECMWF, Arome, and Harmonie) and seeing how closely they match. They are weighted, meaning that some models count more than others, depending on how good they are for a certain spot.

Forecast Cheat Sheet

Short on time? Focus on wave energy. It’s the best single metric to gauge how big and powerful the waves will be.

Click any table cell to jump to that forecast hour. The map will update with forecast arrows, so you can see if wind and swell direction are lining up.

Use the table sidebar to switch units for height and speed.

Log your surf sessions to compare forecasts with real sessions and sharpen future predictions.

On the map, click a metric label to bring that arrow to the front — handy when arrows overlap.

Models and Updates

Surfnerd blends multiple global and local wind and swell models using advanced interpolation and spatial techniques to create an "ensemble" forecast. Forecasts are refreshed hourly.

Surf Predictions

Our AI-driven algorithm scores surf quality, shown by green, orange, and gray dots. Each forecast hour is rated for wind, swell, and tide quality, then combined into an overall score. Here’s the scale:

Perfect
Good
Average
Bad or No Data

Session logs also feed the algorithm — the more you log, the smarter your forecasts get.
