Overview
Frazer Park is a sand-bottomed beach break tucked into a small national park just up the coast from Newcastle. The setting is genuinely pretty, and it makes a fun summer session with consistent, peaky waves that peel both left and right.
When It Works
Frazer Park is a reliable first stop when a small to medium swell shows up. It draws swell from the northeast through east-southeast to south, with southeast (SE) the best match. The break is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and it tends to close out once the surf pushes past that upper size. As a beach break it stays fairly consistent, serving up peaky takeoffs across the sandbanks.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northwest (NW) offshore wind to clean things up. The bank works through most of the tide, from low to high, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
With its mellow, peaky waves, Frazer Park is a friendly spot for beginners finding their feet. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on, though the crowd is only sometimes a factor.
Access
The turnoff is signposted off the Pacific Highway, and there's a car park with free parking at the beach.
