Overview
Garth's Reef is a subdued, gutless right-hand reef off Pebble Beach Drive, just south of Point St. George. The wave breaks over a rock ledge and stays mellow and low-powered rather than punchy.
When It Works
Like Point St. George, the outer reefs and rocks in front of Garth's filter down large winter swells before they reach the ledge, so it only comes alive when there's real size in the water. It's worth a look mainly during big swells. The spot draws swell from south through north (S-N) and is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind to clean it up. It works through low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a forgiving, easygoing right-hander, well suited to beginners after a low-pressure wave.
