Green Harbor is a sand-bottom beachbreak on Massachusetts Bay, and one of the few spots in the bay that stays offshore in a northeast wind. It's a left-hander with sloppy shoulders that leave plenty of room for cutbacks.
When It Works
The break draws swell from north to east (N-E), with east swell the best match, and is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft. When a big northeast to east swell runs, it wraps around a jetty to throw mainly lefts, with extra peaks forming further down the beach at mid tide. Consistency runs moderate to low, so it won't be on every time you check.
Wind and Tide
A northeast offshore wind is the key here, and it's a rare direction to have working in your favour on Massachusetts Bay. It breaks at mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Because it only fires now and then, the lineup can fill in on the days it does. Keep an eye on the estuary outflow as well, since the water draining into the surf can get rippy.
Access
There's a car park with a mix of free and paid parking, though the free parking is winter-only, and a lifeguard covers the beach.
