When It Works
The point draws swell from east through south to southwest, with southwest (SW) swell the best match. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, so you want a decent pulse in the water before it comes to life. Consistency is moderate, so it will not fire every day, but the good windows are worth timing.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind to clean up the walls. The point can work through most of the tide, from low to high, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers, with rolling right-handers rather than anything heavy or fast. Expect a fairly quiet lineup, so there is usually room to find your own waves.

A caravan park at Kelso has private access to the point. If you are not staying there, you can pay a fee or walk around to reach the wave. Because access means paying or staying at the park, the lineup stays quiet.
