Hatsugyokou surf guide

Hatsugyokou is a surf spot that caters mainly to intermediate surfers. It’s located in a spot where you can catch waves mostly from the NorthWest and NorthEast swells. The surf here has its ups and downs, so while it can be fun, don’t expect it to be firing all the time. This place can be affected by SouthWest winds, which can help shape the waves just right. When the conditions dial in, you’ll find some decent rides waiting for you here.

The waves at Hatsugyokou break over a mix of boulders and sand, which means you need to keep an eye out and choose your spot wisely. When it's not pumping, the rights are usually pretty weak, but if the swell is good, the lefts offer a longer ride. It works best at mid to high tide, and overall, it handles swell sizes around 2 ft (about 0.6 m). Just remember, if you’re out there at full tide, watch out for backwash, as it can throw off your ride.

Since the surf is best suited for those with intermediate skills, it’s a great place to practice and improve. Just be mindful of the boulders in the lineup, as they can make things a bit tricky. Keep an eye on the forecast for the right swell, and you might just find your groove at Hatsugyokou.
