Hobuck/North Coast is located on the northern Washington Coast and is known for its beachbreak waves. It’s a bit of a trek to get there, as you’ll need to hike a distance down to the beach. While it offers some unique surfing opportunities, the quality of the surf can be inconsistent. The area runs along the Makah reservation, which means surfers should be aware of local regulations and access points. If you're willing to walk a bit, going a couple of miles south past Portage Head can lead to slightly better conditions, though you won’t find anything that’s world-class.
The surf here mainly caters to beginners, with waves breaking over sand. You can expect the optimal swell direction to be from the Northwest, though it also handles swells coming from the South and Northwest. Overall, you’ll find wave sizes from about 2ft to around 6ft (0.6m to 1.8m). The waves can break left and right, making it a bit easier for beginners to find their rhythm. For the best experience, keep an eye on the wind direction; an easterly wind is preferred. Low, mid, and high tides can all work here, so just check the tide charts before you head out and pick your time wisely.
