Hooks is a hard-breaking beachbreak that peels over sand, and with no outside bar to soak up the energy it turns very hollow and powerful.
When It Works
The bank draws swell from south through north (S-N), with northeast (NE) the direction that really lights it up. The lefts in particular come alive on a northeast swell. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and both lefts and rights break here. Expect a fairly consistent spot that shows up more often than not.
Wind and Tide
Look for west (W) offshore wind to clean up the faces. This is a high-tide break, working best at high tide, with a rising tide the better call.
Local Tips
The spot is pitched at beginners, even though the wave breaks hard and hollow. The lineup can get crowded when it's working. As anywhere in Florida, sharks are never far off, and summer can bring swarms of man-o-war, so it's worth keeping that in mind before you paddle out.
Access
There's a surf shop nearby, and parking is free, including roadside spots.
