Il Bunker surf guide

Il Bunker is a surf spot located on the southern tip of Santa Marinella. It’s tucked away and not visible from the main road, so it might take a bit to find. The best way to access the spot is from the pier that's north of the wave. It's typically not crowded, so it can be a nice place to catch some waves without too much hassle.

This spot features a powerful right-hander that breaks over a shallow reef. To really get the best of Il Bunker, you’ll want to wait for a solid swell, ideally from the northwest, as it tends to activate the break. It can handle swell sizes starting at about 2 feet (0.6 meters) and can produce both left and right waves. The wind works best when coming from the northeast, and it handles various tide heights—low, mid, and high are all good options here. Keep in mind that this place is better suited for intermediate surfers due to the challenging conditions and the reef setup.

While you're there, be aware that the swell direction can also come from the southwest, but it’s the northwest that really brings in the best conditions. What sets Il Bunker apart is the unique setting with the WWII bunker right there, giving it a bit of an interesting vibe. It’s best to check the swell conditions before heading out, as they can really impact the quality of the waves.
