Ile Bernache surf guide

Ile Bernache is located off the northeast coast of Mauritius, near the town of Grand Gaube. This spot is known for its barrier reef which creates some surfable waves, particularly a fun right-hander in front of the island. However, the waves don't break that often, so it's not a place for daily surf sessions.

When conditions are right, the waves here can be enjoyable, especially with a northeast swell. The spot handles swell sizes around 2ft (0.6 meters) and best breaks over live coral. A decent southwesterly wind can help shape things up nicely, and mid to high tide tends to offer the best conditions. The wave direction is primarily right, making it suitable for surfers with intermediate skills looking to catch some rides.

While you might find a light crowd when the waves do break, it’s always a good idea to check conditions before heading out. If you’re interested in other activities, there’s a kitesurfing and surf school nearby for those looking to learn or improve their skills.
