Ile des Deux Cocos surf guide

Ile des Deux Cocos is a small and pretty surf spot located on the eastern side of Mauritius, near Blue Bay. It’s not the most accessible location, as you’ve got to navigate your way through some tricky access points, especially during the winter months when conditions can get rough. The spot gets its name from the island nearby, which adds to the picturesque setting. However, be ready for the possibility of blown-out conditions, especially in the winter when the winds can really pick up.

This spot mainly serves up a decent left wave that works best with a southeast swell, though it can also handle swells coming from the east and southwest. With a size tolerance of around 3 feet (about 1 meter), you're looking at some fun waves if the conditions align. The reef breaks over live coral, so you'll want to be cautious if you're not familiar with the terrain. Mid to high tides are your friends here, and northwest winds are preferred to keep things clean. It's a good destination for intermediate surfers looking to get some experience on a reef break.

While Ile des Deux Cocos offers a fun surf experience, it’s worth noting that there are many small passes and surf spots along the eastern reef of Mauritius. Unfortunately, many of them tend to be flat or blown out, which can limit your options. If you’re planning on heading out, it’s a good idea to keep an eye on local forecasts and be prepared for changing conditions.

Wind certainty

Wind certainty tells you how much the weather models agree on the forecast.

  • High certainty: Models agree closely; forecast is reliable.
  • Medium certainty: Some disagreement; conditions may shift slightly.
  • Low certainty: Models diverge; treat forecast with caution.

We calculate this by comparing wind speed, gust and direction from multiple models (like GFS, ECMWF, Arome, and Harmonie) and seeing how closely they match. They are weighted, meaning that some models count more than others, depending on how good they are for a certain spot.

Forecast Cheat Sheet

Short on time? Focus on wave energy. It’s the best single metric to gauge how big and powerful the waves will be.

Click any table cell to jump to that forecast hour. The map will update with forecast arrows, so you can see if wind and swell direction are lining up.

Use the table sidebar to switch units for height and speed.

Log your surf sessions to compare forecasts with real sessions and sharpen future predictions.

On the map, click a metric label to bring that arrow to the front — handy when arrows overlap.

Models and Updates

Surfnerd blends multiple global and local wind and swell models using advanced interpolation and spatial techniques to create an "ensemble" forecast. Forecasts are refreshed hourly.

Surf Predictions

Our AI-driven algorithm scores surf quality, shown by green, orange, and gray dots. Each forecast hour is rated for wind, swell, and tide quality, then combined into an overall score. Here’s the scale:

Perfect
Good
Average
Bad or No Data

Session logs also feed the algorithm — the more you log, the smarter your forecasts get.
