K55, also known as Campo Lopez, is a consistent right-hand reef break that behaves much like nearby K38. It breaks over an uneven reef, and the point can throw hollow, juicy barrels when the swell lines up.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), with south swell the best match. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft and breaks consistently, so there are regular chances to score. The point is where the best barrels show up, particularly on a northwest swell.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast offshore wind. The reef can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This right-hander suits intermediate surfers, and you can expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on. Watch for urchins on the reef. If you want a change, the decent beachbreak just north of the rocks is worth a look.
Access
Campo guards may try to restrict access for non-guests, and parking is restricted, so it pays to sort out your entry before you go.
