Kingscliff surf guide

Kingscliff is a surf spot located along the beautiful coastline that offers a decent experience for surfers of various skill levels. It's generally quieter than some of the more popular nearby spots, which can be a plus if you're looking for a more relaxed session. The sand at Kingscliff is shaped by the nearby river and jetty, helping to create some peaks that can work well when the conditions align. You can usually find parking at Kingscliff Lions or Faulks Park, making it easy to access the beach.

The surf at Kingscliff is best with a north-east swell direction, handling sizes from 1ft (0.3m) and up. You can expect both left and right waves, with the beach break providing some variety. While it's well-protected from south-east winds, too much south in the swell can lead to it sailing right past. Low to mid to high tides work well here, so you have flexibility in timing your sessions. Keep in mind that the rip can be strong, so be cautious while navigating out past the break.

If you're just starting out, Kingscliff is friendly for beginners, thanks to the mellow beach breaks. There's also a bombie peak not too far off, and heading towards the back beach down to Casuarina gives you access to more exposure to swell, with some reef sections that might turn on in the right conditions, especially with winds coming from the west or north-west.
