Klitmøller, also known as Cold Hawaii, is a well-known surf spot located in Denmark along the North Sea. It draws in surfers from all over due to its unique conditions and beautiful coastal scenery. While it’s primarily famous for kite and windsurfing, surfers can find some decent waves here, especially when the wind is favorable. Just keep in mind that the spot can get quite crowded, as it’s a popular place for all kinds of water sports.
The surf at Klitmøller works best with a swell direction from the NorthWest or SouthWest, with optimal conditions generally seen when the swell sizes are around 1ft to 2.5m. The waves tend to break over uneven reefs, creating longer lefts with a decent wall and some peeling rights. The inside bay features a weaker beach break, which is suitable for beginners but doesn’t usually produce optimal waves. Depending on the wind conditions, especially when it’s too weak for the sail crew, surfers can catch some enjoyable rides here.
Keep in mind that the spot can be tricky due to sharp mussels, strong currents, and potential hazards from flying gear. The best surfing conditions usually occur during low to mid tide, with preferred wind coming from the SouthEast. With all the facilities available nearby, Klitmøller is set up well for surfers, but it’s best to arrive early to avoid the crowds. Just remember, there’s no free camping in the car park, so plan accordingly to avoid fines!
