Overview
Koh Phayam is a relaxed beach break on Thailand's furthest north stretch of surf coast, breaking over sand with both lefts and rights. It keeps the kind of laid-back island feel that has mostly vanished from the busier scenes around Ko Samui and Phuket, with clear water and pristine white sand.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from the south through southwest, and lines up best on a southwest swell. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.5 m / 5 ft, giving a decent window once the swell arrives. Consistency can be hit or miss, so it pays to catch it on the days the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast offshore wind to clean up the faces. The beach can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a friendly spot for beginners, and the lineup tends to stay fairly quiet when it's on.
