La Caravelle is a consistent reef break at St Anne, throwing shallow lefts over dead coral on a nudist beach. There are two main lefts to work with, the longer La Digue and the short, hollow La Table, plus a pushy right called Calif.
When It Works
It draws swell from east through south, with southeast (SE) the best match, and it stays consistent through the year. The reef is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for north (N) offshore wind. It comes in on mid to high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call, and the extra water helps you clear the coral and urchins next to Club Med.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers, and the lineup gets busy when it's on. Beginners are better off heading back to Le Anse Gros Sable, where the easy lefts and straighthanders are, and where most of the surf schools go.
