Overview
La Grande Plage sits right in the centre of Quiberon and is the most sheltered spot on the peninsula. It is a sand-bottom beach break that peels both left and right, making it an approachable option right in town.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from southwest to west (SW-W) and is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. It can be somewhat inconsistent, so you won't always find it firing, but there are worthwhile windows when the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for north offshore wind. The port structure blocks west winds, which adds to the shelter here. The beach works across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The waves suit intermediate surfers. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it is working.
Access
You'll find La Grande Plage in the city, with restrooms, showers, and lifeguard cover on hand. For parking there is a car park with free parking, along with paid and roadside options nearby. Quiberon also holds its paddleboard race here every year on 15 August.
