Overview
La Sud is a sheltered beach break that gives you somewhere to surf when la Nord is too big to handle. It breaks over sand, favours lefts, and stays easy and manageable, which makes it a good spot for beginners and improvers looking to stay clear of the better surfers.
When It Works
La Sud picks up swell from the west through to north, with northwest (NW) swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, and it never really gets too big even at the top of that range. Consistency is moderate, so you will find rideable days without it turning on every session.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind to clean it up. The break works on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. Avoid high tide, when it closes out into an unsurfable shorebreak.
Local Tips
This is a beginner-friendly wave, and it draws a crowd, so expect a busy lineup when it works.
Access
Park on Blvd De La Grand Dune, south of the Front de Mer roundabout, where there is a car park with free parking as well as roadside parking. You will find restrooms, showers, a lifeguard, a surf school, and a surf shop nearby. One thing to keep in mind: the water quality can be dubious here given how close it sits to the rivermouth.
