Les Boulassiers is a long, mellow lefthand point break sitting south of La Brée les Bains. It breaks over an uneven reef, and on the bigger days the swell wraps around the island to peel out into a forgiving, drawn-out left. The point also peaks up a little wider, throwing the occasional right for anyone hunting a different angle.
When It Works
The wave draws swell from west to northwest, with northwest (NW) the direction that lights it up best. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, so you want some size on it before the long left really starts to line up. Consistency is on the fickle side, so it can take patience to catch it firing, but the setup is worth waiting for when everything lines up.
Wind and Tide
This one comes into its own on a southwest (SW) offshore wind, which grooms the point cleanly. It's a high-tide wave, wanting the water deep enough to let the left run, and a rising tide is generally the better call. Aim for high tide as the peak of the window.
Local Tips
Les Boulassiers suits intermediate surfers, with a mellow, forgiving wall that rewards a smooth flowing approach over quick reactions. It's one of the rarer breaks in the area, so expect a busy lineup on the days it turns on.
