Overview
Little River State Beach is a beach break over quirky, nondescript sandbars strung along the highway. It is rarely surfed and only rideable when the surf is small and clean. Nearby Clam Beach and Mad River Beach are funky, sharky breaks that also see few surfers, and if it is good here it is most likely better elsewhere in the area. A non-fatal white shark attack was recorded at Little River in August 1997.
When It Works
The sandbars pick up swell from the south through to the north (S-N) and break both left and right over sand. It is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, though what it really wants is small, clean, peaky windswell. Consistency is moderate, so it pays to time a good window rather than count on it.
Wind and Tide
Look for east offshore wind, which lines up with the clean, small conditions the bars need. It is best at high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
When it is small and clean, the waves are gentle enough for beginners finding their feet. Expect a fairly quiet lineup on the rare days it is worth a look.

There is free parking, and camping is available at the beach.
