Overview
Machine is a right-hand reef break in the Maldives that peels over dead coral. Nearby Tsunami's is often the better option, a winding, tubular right that stays rideable even in small swells and comes into its own on an incoming tide.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from southeast through south, with a southeast swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, so you want some size in the water without it getting too big.
Wind and Tide
Look for a west offshore wind to clean it up. The wave can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. Keep in mind that the incoming tide also brings strong rips, so pick your entry and exit with that in mind.
