Makuti is a short, shallow left that zips across the reef off Makuti Island. Breaking over live coral, it's a fast, demanding wave that suits expert surfers.
When It Works
The break comes alive on a southwest swell and takes anything from the south through southwest. Green Reef blocks most other directions, so Makuti stays somewhat inconsistent and only turns on with the right S-SW pulse. It's usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast offshore wind to groom the face. The reef is best on high tide, with a rising tide the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-level wave over live coral, so it rewards confident, experienced surfers. Expect a quiet lineup when it's working.
