Overview
Mancora is a long, easy left that peels down the middle of town over a sand bottom. It's mostly mushy and forgiving, though a few sections will throw a barrel when it lines up. There's a lot of room out there, so plenty of surfers can ride it at once without the wave feeling squeezed. The water is clean, and the wave is good enough to be worth planning a session around.
When It Works
The bank draws swell from west through north to north-northeast (W-N-NNE), and it's not fussy about picking it up. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, which covers everything from a small, playful day to something with real size behind it. Best of all, it turns on across all four seasons, so there's no dead stretch of the year to plan around.
Wind and Tide
Look for east-southeast (ESE) offshore wind to groom it. The workable wind window runs east-northeast through southeast to south (ENE-SE-S), which is wide enough that a lot of mornings will be surfable. Low tide is the call here, and a rising tide is generally the better half of that window.
Local Tips
Mancora suits just about anyone. Beginners can find their feet on the softer sections, while intermediate and experienced surfers have enough wall and the odd barrel to work with. Bring whatever you like riding: shortboards, funboards, and longboards all make sense on a wave this long and this mellow. Expect a busy lineup, and a crowd that can feel a little reserved at first. Keep an eye on the ocean while you're out there, since turning your back on it is the main thing that catches people out.
