Mangkudu Lefts surf guide

Mangkudu Lefts is a surf spot located near Mangkudu Island, known for its challenging waves and unique surfing experience. This spot has been gaining attention among surfers, especially those looking for more than just the usual beach breaks. While it’s not the easiest place to access, the waves here can definitely make the journey worth it for experienced riders.

The waves at Mangkudu Lefts are primarily left-breaking over a live coral reef, and they can handle swell sizes starting from about 3ft (1m) and can go up to 15ft (5m) for the big wave chargers. The optimal swell direction is Northwest, but it can also handle swells coming from the Southwest and West. It’s best surfed with a preferable wind from the Southeast and works well during low, mid, or high tides. This spot is more suitable for intermediate surfers who are up for a challenge and looking to test their skills.

There’s another wave on the other side of the island that’s a mellower right, but it’s only surfable when the conditions are just right during the wet season. Keep in mind that Mangkudu has had its share of buzz, especially with the army occupying the island, which has made access a bit tricky. If you can make it out there, be prepared for some quality surf.
