The beach is pretty mellow, making it accessible for many surfers, though it might not have the excitement that comes from more iconic locations.

The optimal swell direction for Mill Bay is Northeast, which can be a bit rare. It can handle swell sizes starting from 1 ft (0.3 m) and works best with left and right waves. Given its uneven reef and sandy bottom, you'll find a variety of wave types, but the overall consistency can be hit or miss. The best wind direction is from the Southwest, and you can surf during low, mid, or high tide. Because of the conditions, it's recommended for intermediate surfers who can handle a few variations in the surf.

While Mill Bay itself can be pretty average for surfing, don’t forget that there are better, more consistent rights just off Spruce Cape near the headland. If you find the waves here aren’t shaping up as you’d hoped, it might be worth checking out that area for improved conditions.
