Murderers surf guide
Murderers is a surf spot known for its right-hand waves that can deliver some pretty fun rides when the conditions are right. Itโs located in a scenic area, but itโs not a place you can just casually stroll up to. The access road is steep and can be slippery, so be careful when youโre heading down to the surf. This spot is best known for those rare Northeast swells, which are what youโll be hoping for to really enjoy the waves here. When itโs firing, you might find yourself sharing the wave with a few others, as it draws a crowd when itโs on.
This surf location can handle swells ranging from about 2 feet (0.6 meters) and up, making it suitable for intermediate surfers who want to test their skills on a good day. The optimal swell direction is Northeast, but it also works with East swells. The waves break over a combination of boulders and sand, creating a variety of shapes, from mellow points to more hollow sections, especially when itโs a head-high day. Low to mid tides are preferred, and if the wind blows from the south, youโll be in for a treat. Just keep in mind that conditions can be inconsistent, so patience is key when youโre waiting for the right moment.
In addition to the waves, be mindful of the local wildlife. The area can have sharks, so it's wise to stay aware while you're out there. Given the conditions and access challenges, itโs recommended that only those with intermediate skills give this spot a go, especially when the surf is up.
