Negritos surf guide

Negritos is a surf spot located near a beach that can be a bit hit or miss, but it's got its moments. The main beach area, La Brea, sometimes has some decent triangular sandbars that create fun little corners. This spot is facing west, so if you want to avoid the wind, you might want to check out the southern headland at Balconies or the big concrete pier at Puerto Negritos for better conditions.

When it comes to surfing here, Negritos can handle swells from various directions. The optimal swell direction is Northwest, but you can also catch some action with swells coming from the Southwest and North. It works well with swell sizes around 2ft (about 0.6 meters) and can break over sand. You’ll find both left and right waves here, which makes it a good spot for beginners looking to get some practice in. Low, mid, and high tides can all work, but keeping an eye on the wind from the east is smart for the best conditions.

If you decide to surf here, keep in mind that Punta Balconies, while often messy, can have some protected left walls. Just be careful around the rocky areas, as they can make things tricky. The vibe is pretty laid-back, and you'll probably share the waves with some friendly sea lions and dolphins too.
