Newbiggin is a rare right-hander that peels off the point over a rock ledge. It's a reef wave that needs some size before it gets going, so it only shows up on the bigger days.
When It Works
The reef pulls in swell from the northeast through the southeast, with a northeast (NE) swell the best match. It works from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 4.6 m / 15 ft, and because it needs size to break at all, the lower end of that range is really where things start to come alive.
Wind and Tide
Look for a west (W) offshore wind to clean it up. The wave breaks through mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-only wave. It's safer when there's plenty of water covering the reef, so pick your days and time your session with that in mind.
Access
There's a campground right on the point. Parking is easy to sort, with a car park offering both free and paid spaces plus roadside parking nearby.
