Newcombs Hollow to Lecounts Hollow is a sandy beachbreak running along an east-northeast-facing length of coast, with consistent bars and both lefts and rights on offer. The stretch takes in the designated summer surfing spot at Whitecrest (Four Mile Beach). This end has less power and handles size less well than the breaks to the south, but Lecounts Hollow will take a big swell and stay more manageable, offering easier paddle-outs and fatter, crumbly walls.
When It Works
Waves break over sand, and the beach pulls in swell from north through east-northeast to southeast (N-ENE-SE), with southeast (SE) the standout direction. It is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 4.6 m / 15 ft, giving a wide working window.
Wind and Tide
Look for west (W) offshore wind. It works on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Expect a sometimes crowded lineup, since several pay carparks sit on the cliffs above. There is plenty of drift to contend with, and pea-soup fogs roll in with monotonous regularity.
Access
Paid parking is available in a cliff-top car park, and facilities include restrooms, showers, and a lifeguard on the beach.
