No-Kandui is known for being one of the more challenging surf spots in the Mentawai Islands. This break is located on Karangmajat Island and is recognized for its technical demands. With a long fringing reef, it offers a unique surfing experience, but it’s not the type of spot you'd want to tackle unless you're confident in your abilities. The scenery is beautiful, but you’re really here for the waves, which can be spectacular under the right conditions.
The waves at No-Kandui are best when there’s a southwest swell. They handle swell sizes around 6 feet (about 1.8 meters) but can provide even more challenging conditions when the swell picks up. The waves mostly break to the left over live coral, creating some serious tubes for those who are able to get into them. If you're looking to ride here, the preferable wind direction is from the east, and it works best at mid to high tide. However, this is definitely a spot meant for expert surfers; getting in position can be tough because the lineup is pretty featureless, and you’ll need to be fully committed to make it through some of those gnarly barrels.
No-Kandui isn't the most consistent spot, so it's essential to keep an eye on the conditions. When the stars align, you can expect a powerful, intense surf experience. Just remember, it can get crowded, but not as much as other spots. If you’re aiming for an adrenaline rush and you’re up for a challenge, make sure you check it out when the conditions are right.
