Pampa surf guide

Pampa is located west of town at the end of Bundoran's bay and is known for its serious waves. This spot is more suited for expert surfers due to its tricky conditions. It’s an exposed headland that can pack quite a punch, making it a popular choice for experienced barrel riders looking for a challenge.

The waves at Pampa really come alive when there’s a swell coming from the west, although it can also work with southwest and northwest swells. It tends to handle sizes around 4 ft (1.2 meters) well, breaking over an uneven reef. Most of the waves break to the left, and while the place can be forgiving at times, it definitely rewards skilled surfers who know what they’re doing. For the best experience, aim for mid to high tide with a southeast wind, as it helps to create more favorable conditions.

The launch from the rocks is relatively easy, but getting back in can get tricky, especially when the waves are bigger. Local surfers are pretty clued in and not too welcoming toward those who underestimate the spot, so be aware and respect the vibe if you’re checking it out.
