Pampilla surf guide

Pampilla is a popular surf spot located in Peru, not far from Lima. It's known for its laid-back vibe and can be a good option for surfers of various skill levels. The beach breaks here are accessible and provide waves suitable for beginners, but there's definitely more to explore when the conditions are right. The place gets decent foot traffic, especially during surf contests, so expect some company out in the water at times.

When it comes to surfing, Pampilla is best with swells coming from the South and Southwest. It can handle swells up to about 3 feet (0.9 meters) and features both left and right waves. The best time to surf is generally during low to mid, and even high tide depending on the swell size. Small swells work best at low tide, while bigger swells can break nicely at higher tides, although getting out the back can be a workout. The waves break over boulders, so it's a good idea to be cautious when catching waves here. Don't forget that the preferred wind direction is from the Northeast for the best ride.

Besides the surf, Pampilla also hosts the Jose Duany Cup, which is the longest-running surfing contest in Peru, taking place around February or March each year. This event draws surfers from all over and adds some excitement to the scene. If you're looking for more wave options, check out the nearby beaches of Tres Picos, which also have their own surf conditions worth exploring.
