Papanoa is an average beachbreak with fast walls that breaks over sand and offers both lefts and rights. It has a habit of closing out, and the set-ups nearby around Tenexpa and Tetitlan are usually a touch better.

Papanoa draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest, with southwest the best match. It is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and as a consistent spot it picks up swell reliably.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast offshore wind to groom those fast walls. The beach works through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
