Plage du Sillon is St Malo's main beach, a sandy beachbreak that comes to life when a southwest storm pushes swell into the bay. The peaks break both left and right, and the best of them set up right next to the la Hoguette groin. A webcam lets you check it before you head down.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from west to northwest (W-NW), and it's at its best on a northwest (NW) swell. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, so there's plenty of range to play with once the swell is in. Being a sand-bottom beachbreak, it can be somewhat inconsistent, so it pays to time your session for when the swell lines up rather than expecting waves on demand.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest (SW) wind to hold the faces clean. The beach works across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
With its gentle, forgiving peaks, Plage du Sillon is a good fit for beginners finding their feet. The lineup tends to stay fairly quiet, so you should have room to catch waves without much jostling.
Access
There's a car park with free parking plus roadside spots nearby. Onshore facilities are well sorted, with restrooms, showers, a lifeguard, and a surf school on hand, and camping is available if you want to stick around.
