Overview
Playa Cocles is a relaxed beachbreak with a short left reef that peels beside an island at its north end. The beach peaks are mellow and fun, forgiving enough for beginners, while the left breaks over dead coral.
When It Works
The left draws swell from northeast through east, and northeast (NE) is the best direction. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, holding its shape until the swell pushes overhead. Consistency is moderate, so it rewards a bit of patience for the right window.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southwest (SW) offshore wind. The left works through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide the better call and its slashable walls showing best around mid tide.
Local Tips
The left suits intermediate surfers, and you can expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working.
Access
There's free parking, with roadside spots nearby. On the beach you'll find restrooms, showers, a lifeguard, and camping, plus a surf school and surf shop close at hand.
