Overview
Playa Copey is a sand-bottomed beach break with both lefts and rights, sitting about 7 km before Carúpano. This peak and the others along this stretch have hosted national surfing championships, so there's genuine quality on offer when it lines up.
When It Works
The break draws swell from northeast to east (NE-E), and a northeast (NE) swell is the best match. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft and is moderately consistent, so you can expect workable days fairly often even if it doesn't fire every time.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest (SW) offshore wind to clean things up. The break works across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Playa Copey is friendly for beginners, with mellow waves to learn on. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working.
Access
There's free roadside parking close to the break.
