Playa Elefante is a sand-bottomed beach break on Isla Cedros, throwing both lefts and rights. The island looks tempting on paper, but it sits very exposed to wind and swell, so the quality here is middling at best. In practice it tends to come alive on early mornings, when smaller, peaky swells sneak in before the wind picks up.
When It Works
The break draws swell from west through northwest, with a west (W) swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, though the sweet windows are usually on the smaller, peakier end. Consistency is on the patchy side, so it pays to catch it early when the setup lines up rather than counting on it day to day.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southeast (SE) offshore wind to clean it up. The beach can work across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The gentle, forgiving nature of the peaks makes this a spot beginners can grow into. The lineup stays quiet, so you can expect plenty of room to yourself when it does break.
