Playa Jacó surf guide

Playa Jacó is one of the main surf towns in Costa Rica, offering a mix of beach vibes and surfing culture. It's known for its lively atmosphere, making it a popular spot for both locals and travelers. The beach is right in town, so everything you need is close by. It’s a great place to hang out and catch some waves without needing to venture far.

The surf at Playa Jacó works best with swells coming from the South and SouthWest. You can find waves for everyone, especially beginners, with spots that handle swell sizes starting from 1 ft (0.3 m) and up. The beachbreak produces waves that break over sand, offering both left and right-hand rides. Low, mid, and high tide are all good times to surf here, but the best wind direction is from the NorthEast. If you’re just starting out or looking for something a bit easier than the heavy waves at Hermosa, this is a solid place to practice.

While the beach can get crowded, especially at the best peaks, there’s usually enough space for everyone. If you’re keen to avoid the busier spots, there are plenty of opportunities to find your own swell. Just keep an eye on the conditions and enjoy the laid-back scene that Playa Jacó has to offer.
