Overview
Playa La Castilla is a powerful left-hand point that breaks over uneven reef and sand, just south of the bridge over the Cordova. The best left lines up off the rocks and peels into the beach, throwing long, speedy walls that stay open rather than barreling.
When It Works
It draws swell from south through west, with south (S) swell the best match. The point holds size well, working from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, and it stays consistent enough to be worth checking regularly.
Wind and Tide
Look for an east (E) offshore wind to clean up the walls. The point can work through most of the tide, low, mid, or high, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits confident intermediates. The lineup gets rippy and pulls hard, so it isn't a spot for inexperienced surfers. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on, and note that water quality can be questionable when the rivermouth is open.
