Playa Marbella surf guide

Playa Marbella is a short beach that offers a mix of sand and rocky areas, located in a way that it can be a bit hard to find. The beach isn’t packed with tourists, which can be nice if you’re looking for more space to surf. It's important to note that this spot attracts a range of surfers, so you might encounter some experienced folks out there, especially during peak times.

The surf at Playa Marbella can be interesting. The best swell direction is from the SouthWest, and the waves here can handle sizes starting from around 2ft (0.6 meters). There are both lefts and rights to catch here, with the lefts typically found at the south end off the point, which tends to be smaller but works at high tide. The north end has beach breaks that are more suitable for drawing in the SW swell, and they often have more power. This spot is best for intermediate surfers, as the waves can pack a punch at times, regardless of whether it's the wet or dry season. Depending on the tide, you can surf at low, mid, or high tide, with the preferable wind direction being from the NorthEast.

For those looking to avoid the crowd and find a quieter surf session, it’s worth considering the environment. Beginners might want to check out the nearby Nosara area, as Playa Marbella can be challenging with its powerful waves. If you're trying to get here, just follow the signs to Playa Frijola to find your way to this spot.
