Porlock Weir is a long, shapely left that peels down a pebbly point on the Somerset coast. It only shows a few times a year, coming alive when big swells close out the surrounding open beaches, so catching it is more of a rare event than a regular session. The wave breaks over boulders and rewards commitment off the drop.
When It Works
The point draws swell from southwest through west (SW-W), and a west (W) swell is the best match. It is built for size and works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, delivering a long left down the point when it is on.
Wind and Tide
Look for a south (S) offshore wind to clean it up. The wave favours high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers who can handle a very tight take-off zone. It gets crowded when it is working, so pick your moment and respect the Somerset locals in the lineup.
Access
Park in the pay and display car park by the pub and walk up to the point. There are restrooms and camping on hand.
