Porto Ferro is a beach break set in a beautiful bay about 18km northwest of Alghero. Waves break over sand and peel both left and right, and the spot is very consistent, turning on in most swells. Several performance peaks throw up vertical walls that keep working even under big, windy southwest swells. The water quality here is very good.
When It Works
Porto Ferro draws swell from southwest through north, with a northwest (NW) swell the best match. It is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, so it holds size from small days up to properly big ones. This is a spot for intermediate surfers, and it rewards you when the peaks line up.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind to clean things up. The break works across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Watch out for strong currents in the bay, which is worth keeping in mind if the swell is up. For wave info and gear, Black Market (079 235 595) and AE Surf Point (079 582 501) are the local shops to check.
