Overview
Portrush's West Strand is a northwest-facing beach break that works over sand and throws up both lefts and rights. It sits in the heart of Portrush, Northern Ireland's premier tourist town, so there are plenty of facilities right by the sand.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from northwest through north, with northwest (NW) the best match. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast (SE) offshore wind. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, though a rising tide is the better call and tends to be when the bank is most consistent.
Local Tips
Expect a busy lineup, especially through the summer months.
Access
You'll find restrooms, a lifeguard, and a surf school on hand, plus the Troggs surf shop nearby. There's a car park with free parking.
