Overview
Praia do Baleal is a long, curving, scalloped beach that breaks over sand and serves up both lefts and rights. It is a friendly, forgiving spot that suits beginners.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from west through north (W-N), with northwest swell the best match. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. The centre of the beach gathers the most swell, while the corners come into their own on big, windy days.
Wind and Tide
Look for south offshore wind. It can break across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide the better window and high tide the optimal call.
Local Tips
A beginner-friendly beach that can get busy, though the scene stays relaxed even when the lineup fills in.
Access
There is a car park with free parking as well as roadside parking. Restrooms, showers, and a lifeguard are on hand at the beach, with camping, a surf school, and a surf shop over in Peniche.
