Punta Miramar Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Punta Miramar is a consistently good left-hand reef point on Nicaragua's Pacific coast, just south of the power plant at Puerto Sandino. It's the left point break that anchors a cluster of nearby options, peeling over uneven rock reef. Expect fast inside runners and tubes on the inside sections at higher tides, and when the swell cranks, the outside turns on for heavier, hollow rides.

When It Works

The point draws swell from south through west (S-W), with south the best match. It's usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 4.6 m / 15 ft, so there's plenty of working range from chest-high days up to well overhead. It's a consistent break with a good rating, breaking through spring, summer, and autumn. Prime season runs April through September; October usually brings onshore wind and heavy rain, while November can be a sleeper month with late-season pulses.

Wind and Tide

Look for northeast offshore wind. The reef can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. Higher tides feed the fast inside runners and tubes, while bigger swells tend to favor a lower tide on the outside.

Local Tips

This is an intermediate wave rather than a beginner one, and it suits a wide quiver, from shortboards and fish to funboards, longboards, and bodyboards. The lineup stays quiet, mostly visiting surfers, and can feel a little reserved. Keep an eye out for sections of shallow reef.

Access

Getting there is easy, with paved roads running straight to the coast from Managua. There's camping and a surf school nearby, plus free roadside parking. The paddle out is easy, though long rides on bigger days mean longer paddles back.
