Punta Sabbioni is the main surf spot in the Venice area, located just a few kilometers from the iconic bell-tower of San Marco square. This spot offers a relaxed atmosphere, making it a nice option for surfers looking to catch some waves without the hustle and bustle of more crowded places. The area features a long sandy beach that stretches north of the pier, providing plenty of space to find your spot.
The surf here is best with southeast and south swells, which can handle sizes starting from about 2 feet (0.6 meters) and upwards. The main breaking wave is a long righthander, which works well even when there are strong onshore winds. Don't forget that the preferable wind direction is northwest, which helps create better conditions. While Punta Sabbioni is more suitable for beginners, there are also some lefts that can be found further along the beach that might challenge more experienced surfers, especially during low tide.
Getting to Punta Sabbioni is pretty straightforward. From Mestre, just head north towards Lido di Jesolo and follow the signs to the Cavallino ferry-stop. With decent conditions and not too many surfers around, it’s a good local spot to practice and enjoy a day on the water.
