Rocky Point (WA) Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Rocky Point is a laid-back left that breaks over reef on the northeast-facing coast near Cape Naturaliste, south of Perth past Geographe Bay. It's the most popular wave in this pocket of protected reefs, drawing surfskis and bathers over from Dunsborough. Sloping walls run from the take-off before hitting a shallower bit of reef further in, where the wave throws out a little more.

When It Works

The reef is best on a west swell and works across a window from south to west. It's usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, breaking over a mix of uneven reef and sand. It comes alive when a big southwest-to-west swell is running, and while outside swells can get huge, the break maxes out before it reaches double-overhead. Expect moderately consistent surf rather than something that fires every session.

Wind and Tide

Look for southwest offshore wind, which lines up with the same big southwest swells that light the reef up. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

Local Tips

The mellow walls make this an approachable left for beginners finding their feet. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working.

Access

It's a bit of a trek in from the car park on Eagle Bay Rd, which helps keep the crowds down. You'll find free parking in the car park along with roadside parking.
