Saltstein is a boulder reef that picks up swell arriving from deeper water in a limited fetch setup, throwing both lefts and rights. It is more often onshore and messy than clean, but it holds some shape even when conditions are against it, and every now and then it surprises you with a workable wall.
When It Works
The reef takes swell from east through south to southwest, and southwest is the direction that lines it up best. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast offshore wind. The reef can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers. With few alternatives nearby, expect plenty of Oslo surfers in the water when it turns on.
