Sandalwood is a good-quality open beachbreak in Lingshui, with a large beachfront hotel sitting right behind the sand and rivermouth jetties at the north end. Peaks break both left and right over sand, so there's usually a workable peak to pick out somewhere along the beach.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from northeast through southeast (NE-SE), and it comes together best on a northeast swell. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, giving plenty of room for smaller and mid-size days. Consistency can be patchy, so it's worth timing a session to when the swell actually lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northwest offshore wind to clean things up. Sandalwood can work across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The gentle beachbreak peaks make this a friendly option for beginners. Expect a fairly quiet lineup when it's on.
Access
Sandalwood is easy to reach straight off the highway. There may be some rivermouth pollution near the jetties, though the beach itself feels clean.
