Riyue Wan - Main Left surf guide

Riyue Wan - Main Left is a popular surf spot located off the point of Riyue Bay. It usually offers a ride longer than 200 meters that begins about halfway out from the headland. The spot is friendly for surfers of varying skill levels, making it a common place for both locals and visitors to enjoy. However, expect to share the waves with other surfers, as crowds can be moderate, especially on good days.

The Main Left works best with a northeast swell and can handle sizes starting from around 1 foot (0.3 meters). The wave breaks over boulders and sand, creating a left-hand point break that tapers nicely. It's ideal for intermediate surfers and even longboarders due to its easy roll-ins and welcoming shoulder. More experienced surfers can venture out to the Ghost Hotel area on the tip, where the setup can provide shorter barrels and ripable sections. Tide heights around low to mid are preferable for the best surfing experience.

The spot is quite user-friendly and can still manage size during typhoon swells, although the currents can get strong. Luckily, there’s an easy paddling channel that makes it accessible for those looking to improve their skills. The northwesterly winds are generally favorable here, and you’ll find that it’s one of the most consistent winter waves in the area.
